Imaging Techniques

A study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences demonstrates that advanced imaging techniques can map the connections of the brain in ways not previously available. These techniques will allow us to be able to help target therapies to patients with brain lesions depending on whether the dysfunction is within the lesion itself or whether the patient’s deficits are as a result of dys-synchrony, or in other words, as a result of damage of connections downstream to the lesion.

As an experienced neurologist and vascular neurologist who has cared for patients with brain lesions from strokes, Multiple Sclerosis, or even trauma these imaging techniques will help me be able to target current and future advanced brain rewiring therapies to obtain the best functional outcome for the patient. Hypothetically this information could be used to treat any neurological condition including dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and seizures.
